Christmas is coming! It’s almost here! Pretty soon the reindeer will be zooming across the sky pulling the sleigh with the jolly guy and the sack full of toys.
As much as we love Christmas, we have to acknowledge something: It creates a lot of waste. The wrapping paper alone is quite wasteful and then there are all those Christmas flyers and catalogs.
What if we told you that you could recycle all those glossy toy catalogs and make amazing Christmas decorations with them? Isn’t that great? You don’t just need to toss those glossy toy catalogs in recycling, you can actually make something with them.
And it’s so easy!
This creative Christmas craft comes courtesy of Innova Crafts on YouTube.
What You’ll Need:
- One glossy catalog of about 80 pages or so that is just stapled together or has a thin binding
- Spray paint
- Glue
- Festive decorations
Step 1
Put the catalog on its cover and open the back two pages of it. Each fold of the catalog will be with two pages put together.
Step 2
Take the two pages together and fold the upper, right hand corner into the center so you get a long fold.
Step 3
Take the bottom, right hand corner of the two pages and fold those corners up so the top of that fold is even with the bottom of the long fold.
Step 4
Repeat this process, folding two pages at a time, until the entire catalog is folded. Flatten out all your folds as you go.
Step 5
Starting at the back of the catalog again, take the long edge of the sections and fold each two page section again into the middle of the catalog. Do not flatten these folds out. They should be curved. Repeat this process with all the sections.
Step 6
When you have folded all the sections into the middle, you should now have a cone-like structure. Make sure all the folds are secure and even. The folds should be secure enough that you can stand the cone structure up and not have any of the sections come out.
Step 7
Get a festive color of spray paint and paint the structure. (Make sure you are in an area where you can paint. Get an adult to help you.) Green, red, gold or silver are good colors to use, but you can use whatever color you like.
Step 8
Glue your decorations onto your tree. Sparkly stars are good, but you can use whatever festive decorations you like.
You now have a beautiful recycled Christmas tree decoration. When you’re done making this fun, little craft, try making a Christmas tree with your Click-A-Bricks.
