The team behind learning toy Click-A-Brick says they are ecstatic about a new report that says the first half of 2015 was marked by strong sales growth for the toy industry in the United States and predicts an even stronger finish to the year.
According to market research company The NPD Group, the US toy industry grew by 6.5 percent in the first half of 2015, or roughly $400 million. Because 34 percent of toy sales have occurred in the first half of the year over the past four years, The NPD Group used that trend to extrapolate projected sales for the second half of 2015 and has predicted the industry will have grown by 6.2 percent or just over $1 billion for the full year of 2015.
The report also found that Outdoor & Sports Toys had the most significant dollar gains during the first half of the year, while Youth Electronics grew the fastest. The Infant/Preschool Toys category, which had experienced the largest dollar declines in 2014, are now second in dollar gains while Arts & Crafts toys, which ended last year on the plus side, experienced a decline in the first half of 2015.
The NPD Group predicts this could be one of the best years for the US toy industry in a long time due to specialized sales events.
“With this kind of sales performance, 2015 could be one of the best years the US toy industry has seen in well over a decade,” Juli Lennett, senior vice president of the US toys division at The NPD Group said in a news release. “There are certain events that will likely make the close of 2015 even better for the toy industry. For example, the recent retailer promotions during the week of July 13 helped cause a surge of 16 percent growth in the toy industry.”
This is welcome news to learning toy company Click-A-Brick Co-Founders Jason Smith and Georg de Gorostiza.
“Obviously, we’re thrilled with the findings of The NPD Group,” Smith said. “It’s encouraging to see that the toy industry in the US had a great first half of the year and is expected to have a phenomenal year overall. We can personally attest to how well things are going in 2015 for the toy industry, as we had to fast track the launch of our three latest sets; Dino Pals, Rainforest Rascals and Mini Machines, to keep up with demand. We’re expecting sales to stay brisk for the remainder of the year, which would fall in line with The NPD Group’s prediction of the best year year in over a decade. Right now is a good time to be in the toy industry, especially if one’s product is an educational toy like Click-A-Brick. It’s a hot trend right now and it’s one that we think is going to continue to grow as parents become more cognizant of children’s ability to learn and develop best through play and look to encourage that in their children.”
