Educational Building Toy Company Click-A-Brick Thrilled More States Adopting Dads School Day

Speaking as fathers themselves, the team behind educational building toy company Click-A-Brick say they are thrilled that more states are initiating a Dads Take Your Child to School Day, which is meant to encourage fathers to get more involved in their children’s education and other activities.

According to a recent Yahoo Parenting article, Florida is the most recent state to adopt the initiative, along with New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, and Illinois. Each school that has a Dads Take Your Child to School Day does it a bit differently, but the initiative is meant to encourage fathers to accompany their children to school, meet with their children’s teachers and principals and socialize with other fathers. Some school districts will offer parenting workshops and treat the fathers to breakfast and performances. The news article cites a growing amount of research that says the more a father is involved in a child’s schooling and other activities, the better they will do at school and the fewer behavioral problems they will experience.

The special event, which is held on different days in the various school districts, is meant to give fathers a chance to come and explore their children’s schools, something that mothers tend to do more than fathers.

“Traditionally, it’s something they don’t take much part in the way mothers do,” Hershel Lyons, chancellor of K-12 public schools in Florida, told Yahoo Parenting. “The whole idea is to inspire fathers to be engaged in school for their kids’ sake, to encourage them to do better. It’s not at all a knock against moms, but a call to fathers to help their children succeed in the classroom and develop the life skills and confidence an involved parent offers.”

Speaking as fathers themselves, the educational building block entrepreneurs at Click-A-Brick, Co-Founders Jason Smith and Georg de Gorostiza, say they love the initiative and they themselves encourage fathers to get engaged in their children’s development at home by playing together with them in a constructive and educational way.

“Amazingly, we’ve only just heard about the Dads Take Your Child to School Day,” Smith said. “But, we’ve looked into it and it’s a great program and we’re glad to see schools adopting it. Anything that gets parents involved in their children’s schooling and development is a good thing and being fathers ourselves, this particular initiative appeals to us a lot. With gender roles in constant flux nowadays, it’s a perfect time to introduce fathers to a more active role in their child’s education, something moms have been more prone to do.”

The business partners say just like the Dads Take Your Child to School Day encourages fathers to get more involved in their children’s education, their hope is that Click-A-Brick can be used by fathers and mothers to engage with their children at home, getting them ready for the critical thinking they’ll need to do at school as they play together.
